For those of you that don't know, Grant and Lucia met while on deployment in Djibouti, Africa. Lucia's National Guard Unit was in Texas doing all the medical and physical checks before heading to Africa. During this time, a Soldier in the unit was sent home and not able to deploy. The unit really needed the spot filled and decided to contact the Active Duty Unit on base in Texas. Grant was called just a week before they left and was asked to join some random unit from Illinois on a 9 month long combat deployment. Grant's Commander gave him 15 minutes to think about it and call him back (Mind you, Grant just returned home from another deployment just months before). He contacted his Commander back and told him he would fill the spot. Little did he know, those were the most important 15 minutes of his life because if he had said no, the likelihood of meeting Lucia were slim to none.

A couple months go by and Lucia and Grant had nothing but a work relationship with one another. Until one day, Lucia decided to take her shot and did the only thing millennials know how to do... She slid into Grant's DMs about the most aimless work questions she could possibly think of just so she could talk to him. It took several tries before Grant finally realized what she was doing and the two finally started a little more than just a work relationship.

The deployment ended and Lucia went back to Illinois and Grant went back to Texas. It didn't take long until the two started planning vacation after vacation just to see each other again. Until... Grant got his next duty assignment of Hawaii and the short trips to see each other were coming to a close. Lucia decided she could not live without her Grant (& the thought of living in Hawaii didn't sound too bad lol), so she decided to pack her apartment and move with him.

The couple has been loving their Hawaii adventures filled with long hikes, waterfalls, snorkeling with turtles, and sunset walks on the beach.
